I was very sad to hear on the news that Top of the Pops is to be axed by the BBC. We all grew up with this show and though it's been mighty shite for a number of years, it's still ace when you see all the performances on the old shows and it went through a really good phase in the 90s.
I think the Beeb have totally lost their way with it and needed someone other than bloody kids TV presenter Andy Peters producing it.... Sad

Plan for turning totp around
1. Fern Cotton presenting topless
2.Jimmy Saville presenting topless, except medallion
3. Kill most guest presenters, Sharon Osborne especially
4. Hang draw and quarter Andi Peters

By the way when was it good in the nineties?

I never really watch TOTP, but it is an institution!! ...it's been around for 42 years hasn't it?? Ken loves to serenade me with a bit of Usher and Tupac! What's he supposed to do now??

......They should play stuff from the album charts.....

To be fair I think the decline of TOTP goes hand in hand with the decline in music. Singles can get to number one now without selling many units, especially as most of them are manufactured pap.

Fine suggestions public enemy, are you the band? if so, then I think they should get you to present it too, but maybe not topless. In my opinion ToTP went through a phase of being rather good between 93-early 95, before Britpop went rubbish.... but maybe that's me being nostalgic.
It's a great shame that the show is going, in the right hands it could be really decent, but I think the Beeb have just got cold feet after ITV axed CD:UK...

I've never liked it - it was always rubbish - they rarely played stuff I liked.

Sorry I'm not the band but I could do with the presenting job asI am soon to be consigned to the scrap heap of industry. {Greedy peugeot bastards, don't buy their cars}. Anyone got any jobs going, or any suggestions as to what to do next? I've thought about becoming a mobile waxing service specializing in back crack and sack's, not sure if there's any call for such a service though

I must confess to being a bit sad about the demise of TOTP (although this thread seems to have passed me by) but tonight, on the penultimate show, Ronan Keating (minus Irish accent - how the hell did that happen?) announced that he had been on the show 58 times! That means that Ronan Keating, effectively appeared every week on TOTP for 13.5 months! Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. That probably sums up the hole TOTP descended into over the last decade or so. Shame really but time to move on I think.

Loved TOTP, not so sure about the JS references in this thread now though seem somewhat inappropriate?
