So...is anyone off to any apart from the random Scottish Friday fests?

I was just thinking last night that the Sultans would be a perfect festival band but they've never really been embraced by that 'world', I'd like to see them about 4pm somewhere....thoughts?

How was Rockness boys?

Haven't they got three festivals in Ireland this year?
I have no plans to go to any yet. Would like to though.

Only three? I know of the Electric Picnic and one other but I imagined there was loads.

I'd love to go to a festival too but can't really afford it...keep entering comps to win tickets (i've managed this several times in the past) but no luck yet Very Happy

Hi Pippa,

Sultans did play at Reading festival way back in 1992, i have a bootleg cassette of the live recording. Is awesome, but as you say they never got embraced into this world as Nial said on stage "when the rock and roll bands come on you all get fu*king rude, always the fu*king same"

Need something to copy all my cassettes onto cd now

Smile

....and they played at the Fledah Finsbury Park.....in early ninties....Niall was wearing a 'Ken Barlow is Jesus' T shirt and a fetching yellow rain mac!

.....I agree they are the perfect festival band.....it was a shame that they were always put on in the middle of the day when most of the crowd were too sober to embrace them.......and the real fans were too sober to make eejits of themselves!!

....but in the current musical climate they'd be perfect for universal exposure!!
......Bring on Ping fest!!!

I know they did play some festivals, they just never seem to have been one of those bands that really 'did' the festival circuit. With so many festivals about these days (in the UK, not just Ireland and I wouldn't really class those as 'proper' festivals) I would think they were good for a few of them! Especially as the majority of festival-goers are older these days (excepting things like Leeds/Reading) so they would certainly have an audience if only for 'Where's Me Jumper' and 'You Talk too Much'.

sat was stunning weather wise
1990s and wombats were very good.
charlatans were good to ok, didn't play the greatest hits set you'd have expected at a festival.
Sun was colder but dry, prob just as well for the sunburnt creatures....
sultans support band our lunar activities were good., levellers put on their usual good show on, tiny dancers weren't as good as i'd hoped. automatic were shouty and had only 2 songs anyone knew. the feeling were, well a chick band, but gave it a good shot and looked like they were having fun, 2 amusing covers to perk up the crowd too.
Manics were very good. started off with you love us, played loads of singles including about 4 off the 1st album. woo hoo.
can i go home now? *yawn*

I can't really afford any of the bigger festivals either coz I'm savin up for me masters......but there are smaller festivals you can go to...I was at The Great Escape the other week and am goin to Global Fusion this week..........There were a few famous-ish bands but it was mostly new music that I'd never heard of before.... but it was well worth the pennies that I'd paid for the tickets....especially as there were some real gems there!

( and some rubbish....Never ever go to see Mechanical Bride!!) ..

ticketse affects litterally tens of people around the world today.

Give someone you know who posts on a Sultans forum today the chance of life by helping eradicate this horrible affliction.
